Dark Web Monitoring is important to help protect your organisation from breached credentials. Essentially, employees can be tricked by fraudulent emails in to providing third parties with their login details for company systems.
Likewise, employees can also use their company username and password combination to register for other third-party services - such as websites, online shopping, or gaming. These services are often hacked themselves, losing large quantities of user login details at a time.
Those stolen username and password combinations often find their way on to the Dark Web for sale to the highest bidder. Once these login details have been obtained, an attacker may be able to walk straight in to your systems - such as email.
Once inside, they will attempt to spread laterally and access more of your systems and data, and potentially use your own systems to launch attacks against your customers and suppliers. If the owner of the stolen credentials is a privileged user - such as a company owner, a finance director, or an IT manager - then the impact can be devastating.
