Do Meraki cameras require an NVR or DVR?
No. This is the biggest advantage of the Cisco Meraki MV architecture. Every camera features industrial-grade, high-endurance solid-state storage onboard (Edge Storage). Video is stored directly on the camera, eliminating the need for bulky, expensive, and complex Network Video Recorders (NVRs) or Digital Video Recorders (DVRs).
What happens if my internet connection goes down?
Because Meraki MV cameras store video locally on the device, they continue to record even if the internet connection is lost. You will not be able to view the live stream remotely until the connection is restored, but no footage is lost. For mission-critical sites, many customers use Meraki SD-WAN (MX Appliances) to provide cellular backup connectivity.
How does Meraki Camera licensing work?
Meraki Camera licensing is simple. You need one Meraki MV Enterprise License for each camera in your network. This license covers all cloud management, automatic firmware updates, 24/7 support, and warranty. Licenses are available in 1, 3, 5, 7, and 10-year terms. If you wish to use advanced custom computer vision APIs, you may also add the optional MV Sense license.
Can I view my Meraki cameras on my phone?
Yes. The Meraki Mobile App allows you to view live streams and historical footage from anywhere in the world. You can also export clips directly to your phone to share via email or text. The app is included free of charge with your Meraki Dashboard account.
How long do Meraki cameras store video footage?
Retention depends on the recording quality settings and the amount of motion in the frame.
